Cloud-based SaaS Solution

Situation

This SaaS solution provides scientific color and material management, combined with the latest 3D technologies for the textile industry. During the initial years of development, the focus was on building the cloud and its core functionalities, without the involvement of a UX or UI designer.
As the customer base grew, the need to enhance the UX and UI became more prominent. Working closely with stakeholders, a new information architecture and design system were created to significantly improve user experience and usability.

Objectives

  • Increase conversion rates and turn potential customers into actual buyers
  • Build loyal user groups
  • Enhance user engagement
  • Improve user satisfaction
  • Promote upselling opportunities

Duration

Late 2022 – ongoing

Deliverables

  • Development of a new information architecture
  • Redesign of the product interface
  • Creation of a scalable design system
  • Development of user personas and journeys
  • Wireframes, prototypes, and a UI Kit
  • Design QA and continuous support

Methods

  • User Interviews
  • Heuristic Evaluation
  • Competitor Research
  • User Feedback Sessions

Outcomes

  • An intuitive, user-friendly product design
  • Improved information architecture for more efficient workflows

Through user interviews and collaboration with support teams and product owners, we identified that many users struggled with the current application. The platform was overly complex, with too many tools, features, and actions that overwhelmed users. They found it difficult to navigate the structure and required excessive time to locate desired information.

Based on these findings, the cloud platform is currently undergoing a complete overhaul. The focus is on providing a new information architecture, refining usability, and creating a consistent, scalable design system.

Identifying Business & User Needs

During the kickoff phase, business and user requirements were defined, and roles and responsibilities within the team were established. Through user interviews, support feedback, and a heuristic evaluation, we identified the key issues and areas for improvement.

Ideation & Information Architecture Redesign

In the ideation phase, collaborative boards in Balsamiq, Miro, and Figma were used to capture, discuss, and gather early feedback on ideas. This resulted in a new, consistent navigation and information structure with a clear content area that provides users with the relevant information they need.

Development of a New Design System

In addition to simplifying the information architecture, a coherent and consistent design system is being developed to enhance user satisfaction and usability.

Iterative and Incremental Development

The project started in late 2022. While the core application design has been optimized, it is still being implemented. The focus is now on refining integrated tools step-by-step.
